With COVID-19 appearing to ramp down, coworking spaces are predicted to boom. Flexible workplace operators are eyeing the future with optimism, but design plays a critical part in attracting remote workers to coworking spaces.

How will coworking spaces evolve following the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond? To be successful in the ‘new normal’, design-forward coworking environments will need to account for four essential elements: safety, technology, expansion, and enrichment.

Sent home to shelter — and work — in place, office employees were test subjects in the largest workforce experiment in recent history.

In the past, offices were designed to be comfortable and social for executives. Bullpens, cubicles, and tightly packed desks were designed for cost-saving, efficiency, and monitoring employees.
